Counties represented on this committee: Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire
The Western Massachusetts Committee of the Women’s Bar Association provides WBA members residing and/or practicing in the State’s four Western Counties with a forum where they may meet, network, share ideas and participate in local programming. Our committee establishes a firm link with the organization as a whole, acting as the voice that shares the experiences, challenges and the particular professional needs of WBA members in our geographical location.
Our members, who range from seasoned attorneys to law students, come from diverse practice areas and environments ranging from in-house counsel, solo practitioners, and public servants, to associates and partners in both small and large firms. We hold monthly luncheon meetings in Springfield, where we socialize, network, and conduct committee business. On an annual basis we sponsor a Recent Admittees Reception where we honor local women jurists, politicians, and recent admittees to the bar. We co-sponsor, with the Women’s Law Association of Western New England College School of Law, a program entitled “Women in the Law: Options and Opportunities.” In the past, we have sponsored seminars on Women in Politics and Demystifying the Judicial Application Process.
Our local committee, in conjunction with the WBF, has launched a pro bono housing court project serving indigent tenants and landlords in the Hampden County Housing Court in Springfield.
